The Big Deal About Feels

Welcome back everyone.
Dr. Oliver Drakeford here with a small video to discuss a big topic.
I wanted to take a second to just get into why US therapists are so into feelings, because I don’t think as a profession we do a very good job of explaining what their importance is to relationships and to ourselves.
So this part of the course is all about feelings.
Before we go on, let’s just get real clear on the distinctions between emotions and feelings.
Don’t get too hung up on this because I use them interchangeably and I think most people do.
But there is a technical difference between an emotion and a feeling.
Understanding the role of emotions in relationships isn’t just a theoretical exercise—it’s essential to how we connect, communicate, and resolve conflict. If you’re wondering how emotionally aware you are when it comes to dating or long-term connection, you might want to take our relationship readiness test. It’s designed to help you reflect on how you process and express emotions in romantic contexts.
And if you’re looking for tools to encourage these kinds of conversations with your partner, explore our marketplace, where we’ve curated games and resources built around emotional intimacy and connection.
